Green Grounds – A Children’s Nature Network initiative: Global Lessons on Greening School Grounds & Outdoor Learning project sets out to help leaders and practitioners around the world to learn more about successful approaches and scalable strategies for greening school grounds.

Gulf Stream – WEEC 2024 takes place at the end of January 2024 in Abu Dhabi.  It seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas, to advance progress towards a sustainable, resilient, and adaptable future. The event will encourage exploratory dialogue on the different dimensions involved in environmental education.

Great Big Nature – The Wildlife Trusts have launched The Great Big Nature Survey for over 18 year olds.  This is a chance to share thoughts on nature, how it affects you, and what society should (or shouldn’t) do to protect it.  You can access it here.

Teach the Teacher – This is an international, youth-led campaign bringing students into schools to talk to their educators about climate change.  The workshop explains what it is like to be a young person experiencing a climate emergency, what climate anxiety is, and how exploring climate action can help students turn their fear into power.  Whether you’re a student, educator or on a school governing board, you can sign-up to receive further guidance and resources.  Click here for more information.

Exploring Our Wild Isles: Schools for Nature – This is a month-long celebration of schools, that will become an annual event, when school action for nature will be celebrated and used to inspire others.  Wildlife organisations are united in calling for schools to get involved in a new campaign that will celebrate and strengthen the role of schools in protecting and restoring UK nature.  CPD session will offer practical tips for engaging students with the natural world, through cross curricular activities, and how to take part in the Schools for Nature campaign, taking action to tackle the threats the natural world faces.  The first session is on Tuesday 28th March 2023, and you can register here.

Thriving Together – The NAAEE 2023 Conference Call for Presentations Is now open with a submission deadline of May 5th.  The key dates are: Annual Conference (October 18–20) and Annual Research Symposium (October 12).  The theme for this year’s virtual event is “Together We Thrive” and NAAEE seeks proposals that advance justice, equity, and inclusion in the field; inform environmental educators about proven practices; push the leading edge of the profession; and motivate the pursuit of excellence. Presenters have the opportunity to share their knowledge, enhance the visibility of their work, and build connections so that a sustainable future where everyone thrives can emerge.   You can learn more and submit proposals at conference.naaee.org

City Nature Challenge – This is a global wildlife count taking place from Friday 28th April to Monday 1st May.  To take part, download the iNaturalist app and use it to upload photos of any wildlife you see.  After you upload your photos, the app will give you some handy suggestions of what it thinks you’ve seen.  An online community of scientists and enthusiasts will then verify your sighting.  All the records you submit will help inform local and national conservation work.  When on the app, you can see live updates on how your local area is doing during the challenge, and you can also join the UK City Nature Challenge Leaderboard to see live results from all the cities taking part.

Honesty & Action – There is always a risk of fear and anxiety when a young child learns about a situation as wide-ranging and potentially cataclysmic as climate change says Kaya Burgess in an article in The Times.  She looks at ways to explain its impacts to children, finding that above all, what they want is honesty and action.

Danish Hedgehogs – Sophie Lund Rasmussen, University of Oxford, writes in The Conversation about her research on Denmark’s dead hedgehogs and how this offers insight into how to help them.

Swan Survival – The UK’s population of whooper swans will probably double by 2030 thanks to conservation measures.  Analysis of 30 years of data on more than 10,000 wild swans showed that survival rates were significantly higher in nature reserves than outside them.  The BBC has more detail.
