What’s your footprint?

Conservation International is giving you the chance to calculate and then offset your carbon footprint.  The details are here.

It also gives you the chance to miss out the calculation part and just offset your footprint anyway – whatever it is.  All major credit cards are accepted, CI says:

“Protecting forests is a critical part of the solution to climate change. When you offset your carbon footprint, you protect forests that are critical for absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.”

This is conscience money, of course, and there may well be better ways of spending it.  Anyway, the site is meant for North Americans so it is likely to exaggerate the footprint of Europeans because of the assumptions that are built into the algorithms which are programmed to expect a super-profligate level of carbon-spend in life style.
