Learning Away invites us to attend a free session on July 5th run by Anita Kerwin-Nye, Director at notdeadfish.  Questions to be examined are:

What will the election mean for the education sector? Will there be a reshuffle? Will schools have the funding, time and enthusiasm needed for ‘enrichment’ programmes?

They add:

The general election on 8 June could signal the beginning of a period of rapid change for education in the UK, and it will be crucial for residential providers to know what schools are looking for, and how their programmes could fit into a new landscape. Social change consultants notdeadfish will give their view on how providers can make their case for the value of their programmes to schools under increasing pressure.  The school system faces the biggest series of changes it has seen for a generation, and there is widespread speculation that June’s election will increase the pace of change with the Conservative majority. Changes to accountability and grading frameworks, curriculum and school structures like Multi Academy Trusts are already in force – grammar schools, further qualification reform and above all changing and reducing budgets are all on the horizon. By the end of the session participants should have a better view of:

Accountability frameworks that govern schools
Structures in the school system – and how they might look in the future
Key points of influence – and what reshuffles might mean
Pressures on schools and how providers can navigate them

This session follows on from the insightful workshops in November 2016 and March 2017. It is designed for anyone working alongside schools, particularly those providing residentials. If you missed the last workshop, you can catch up on the social media action on Storify and look at the slides in the resource pack.

The relevance of all this might depend on who wins, of course, and there seems little emphasis on the curriculum.  However, to book your free places click here.  Please contact Kim Somerville learningaway@lotc.org.uk or Isabel Saunders Isabel@notdeadfish.co.uk with any queries.  It is hosted by YHA London Lee Valley.
