Here’s Richard Louv writing about nature for the Children and Nature Network He says,
“What’s nature? Whilst scientists and poets struggle to find the answer, each of us must capture the mystery.”
He goes on:
“A few years ago, I worked with a council of neuroscientists, experts on childhood development. When I asked how experiences in the natural world shape young brains, they drew a blank. “How do you define nature?” they replied, rhetorically. Ironically, these same scientists were already simulating what they considered “natural conditions” for the control groups in their labs. If asked to step outside the lab and define nature, they were lost. Scientists aren’t the only people who struggle with the question. …”
