This is a beautiful book (I could not put it down), as well as being an important work about a very important subject.  Bees pollinate more than 130 fruit, vegetable, and seed crops that humans rely on.  Bees are crucial to the reproduction and diversity of flowering plants; their economic contributions are measured in the tens of billions of dollars each year.  Yet bees are dying at an alarming rate, threatening food supplies and ecosystems around the world.  Noah Wilson-Rich and his team of bee experts provide a window into the vitally important role that bees play in the life of our planet.  The volume covers everything from the human-bee relationship through history, to a directory of bee species (there are 20,000 in total); guides on beekeeping, to what we can do to help our local bee population.  Recommended as a deceptively easy to read book about a very crucial insect.
