Environmental Education remains a strong feature of life in the USA.  From April 17th to April 23rd, over 400,000 people celebrated environmental education at more than 3,000 events in every state and territory.  This was part of the 12th annual National Environmental Education Week (EEWeek) – the country’s largest celebration of environmental education.

This was organised by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), and supported by Samsung. EEWeek leads up to Earth Day each April, with the aim of inspiring environmental learning in school students and their families, and EE Week events and projects take place across the country in classrooms, after-school clubs, parks, aquariums, museums, and other formal and informal educational settings.

Diane Wood, NEEF President, said:

Studies have shown that environmental education and teaching lessons in an environmental context build critical thinking skills, foster leadership skills, and improve overall academic performance.  EE Week shines a national spotlight on the importance of environmental education by connecting educators across the country, sharing their stories, and engaging people of all ages.”

All we can do is look on in admiration at a country blessed by both NEEF and NAAEE.  Mind you, we are a bit confused about what the links are between them.  Answers on a postcard please …
