Here is a video of a recent lecture at the University of the West of England (Bristol) by Jonathon Porritt on Sustainability and the Conservative Administration.

Porritt has been a key figure in UK sustainable development for the last 40 years.  He’s a former director of Friends of the Earth, Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission, and founder director of Forum for the Future.  He is a good commentator, author and broadcaster whose views are always worth listening to.  This video is no exception.

About 20 minutes in, he discusses four issues that he sees as centres of hope for the next five years:

  1. the empowering of city-regions, to include financial devolution
  2. the continuing sustainability pathway of significant UK businesses (but no mention of the circular economy)
  3. the Pope’s recent encyclical on human responsibility for the earth
  4. young people, generally.

There are two videos.  Part 1 is the talk.  Part 2 is the Q & A session that followed.  Part 1 is reasonably apolitical; Part 2 isn’t, as his audience kept asking him (party)-political questions.
