Last week we mentioned the Climate Change Teacher training Academy which is delivered by Harwood Education and UNITAR. Its mission is to ensure that there will be a climate change teacher, in every school throughout the world, starting with the UK. It says:
“As a Climate Change Accredited Teacher in your school you gain access to world-class learning resources and teacher training courtesy of the UN CC:Learn Program that equips you with the Climate Change and Environmental knowledge needed to educate and empower our next generations. The program is entirely free and you will benefit from extensive knowledge and support, as well as access to the eduCCate Global Community and exciting School Sustainability and Eco Initiatives.”

The Green Schools Project is re-running its pupil environmental attitude survey that it started with NUS / SOS_UK last year. There were almost 3,000 responses the first time around. There is information here which has links to the survey and the consent form which needs to be completed by a teacher before pupils submit responses. The UKSCN petition calling for a review into how the education system prepares students for the climate crisis now has 7000 signatures. ∫∫∫

The BBC has a brief report on the publication of the first global atlas of earthworms. This was based on surveys at 7,000 sites in 56 countries. You can read more here. ∫∫∫

Next year [2-4 June], UNESCO will fly 800 people from across the world to Berlin to launch Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs. The conference will seek to raise global awareness on sustainable development challenges and the role of ESD as a “key enabler for the successful achievement of all SDGs”. UNESCO added: “Through Education for Sustainable Development, UNESCO aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are needed to contribute to sustainable development.” ∫∫∫
