As we noted the other day, 1582 parks and green spaces have received a 2015 Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy.
These awards recognise the best parks and green spaces across the country, and a green flag is a sign to the public that the highest possible standards are adhered to.
NAEE is very pleased that one of these is Martineau Gardens, in Birmingham, as this is a garden that we know well.
Not only do we sometimes hold meetings there, but it is also a venue where schools receiving our Kenrick bursaries can visit for environmental education. Caroline Hutton, Director of the gardens says:
“Martineau Gardens are a community-run garden that’s open for free to the public. This award is a tribute to the dedication of our volunteers who work hard to keep the gardens a beautiful and tranquil spot for Birmingham people to come and relax in.”
We would add that it’s also a place for people to learn in, as comments from teachers who have been there illustrate.
