Now that the election excitement is over, it’s time to look at the team of ministers that will be sitting in Sanctuary Buildings for the foreseeable future. This page will update as the full team is compiled.

To no one’s great surprise, Bridget Phillipson is the new Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities. Her team comprises:

Anneliese Dodds is Minister of State for Women and Equalities

Baroness (to be) Jacqui Smith is a Minister of State

Catherine McKinnell is a Minister of State

Stephen Morgan is Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State

Janet Daby is Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State

The details of their responsibilities are not yet clear; we shall add those when they are.

More detail can be found on the DfE website where you can also see the names and biographies of the senior civil servants who run the show and the Board of Governors who advise them.

  1. I am more hopeful for the Education Service with Bridget Phillipson and Dame Jacqui Smith in post. But environmental education organisations like NAEE will still have to keep up pressure on the new team to achieve significant environmental/sustainability change within the core national curriculum. I have known Jacqui Smith since she was a local MP and came to visit the School Farm I manage.
Despite my misgivings (pigs can bite anyone) she insisted on climbing into the pig pen for a photo opportunity! But her background in teaching will certainly help, although it is wholly secondary and not in the environmental or geography areas of the curriculum.
